Pastor dupes 499 women N3.5m

Policemen attached to the Pen Cinema Division of Lagos State Police Command have arraigned a 46-year-old pastor, Archie Morrow, before a Yaba Magistrate’s Court, Lagos, over allegations that he duped 499 women of N3.5 million.
It was gathered that the pastor allegedly deceived the women to pay N7,000 each into his bank account with the promise to give them a loan of 150,000 each.
It was further gathered that after the pastor allegedly got N3.592 million, he bolted with the money and relocated to an unknown area, as all efforts by the women to get their money back proved abortive, while he also refused to pick their calls.
Luck, however, ran out on him when some of the women, acting on a tip-off, located him somewhere around Oke-Aro, a suburb of Ogun State. He was arrested by detectives from Pen Cinema Police Station, Agege.
One of the women said: “Pastor Archie told us that we should pay N7,000 into his bank account and that he will help us secure loan of N150,000 each. We got our friends and neighbours involved and they parted with the amount, but all efforts to get pastor to give us the loan proved abortive.
“He stopped picking our calls and he relocated from his house. We prayed and went looking for him and somebody told us that they saw him in Ogun State. We got the police to go after him and he was eventually arrested.
“However, he is claiming that he had spent our money and that we should forgive him. I trusted him because I felt he was a man of God.”
The crime was said to have contravened Section 312 of the Criminal Code Law of Lagos State.
The accused pleaded not guilty and was granted bail in the sum of 200,000 with two sureties with evidence of tax payment for three years.
The case was adjourned to September 28 and he was remanded at Kirikiri Prison, Lagos, pending when he will meet the bail conditions.
